Disturbing news that we’ve lost another gay porn star. Although details are sketchy at this point, former Rascal Exclusive Cole Ryder died of a staph infection in his sleep.

One of the first of a crop of more-masculine and hairy studio exclusives, Cole was signed by Rascal in 2006, where he went on to appear in Link: The Evolution, When Bears Attack, and others. He appeared on the cover of the October 2006 issue of Unzipped and the cover of Leather Sessions.

When Kink.com decided to purchase the San Francisco Armory last year, they knew they were getting much more than just a new production studio. In addition to being a historic San Francisco landmark, the smooth granite front steps of the 94-year-old building have also made the Armory a treasured destination for skateboarders from all over the world.
Recently, a local production company even got Kink.com’s permission to use the historic steps (referred to by skaters as “3 up 3 down”) as a location for a commercial they were shooting for Adidas. Before he announced that he was retiring from performing to focus on producing, I sat down (via email) with Collin O’Neal to get an idea what his mental process is like, as well as some of the hurdles he encounters, when he produces movies for his World Of Men Series and website. Below is part 1 of 2 of our conversation … it might be a bit long (for this site, at least) but it’s definitely worth a read for anyone who’s interested in knowing about how porn is made outside the studio system.

What are the biggest obstacles you face when making porn overseas?

When I first had the idea in my head of making porn in foreign countries with never-before-seen models I knew there would be some obstacles, but they can be filed into two categories: models and locations.

Where and how do you find your models?

I find my models mainly via gay social networking websites like BigMuscle, Gaydar, and GayRomeo. I met Pedro and Daniel from Sao Paulo and Miami, and Said from Lebanon over the net. There are a few times I meet guys on the street or in clubs like Jacko from Lebanon who I met in a café in Aleppo, a city in Northern Syria and then I met my exclusive Francisco Rey, while he was cleaning the pool of our hotel in the Dominican Republic. I am very shy in person, so it is very hard for me to just walk up to guys and pop the porn question.

Hollywood Police Department refuses to comment on whether being in a sex tape is a violation of police policy until the investigation is over.
