California, and more specifically San Francisco, has long been on the forefront of many equal rights movements. From the current battle to prevent Proposition 8 from passing, which would initiate a constitutional amendment eliminating the right of same-sex couples to marry, to Proposition K, a ballot initiative that would decriminalize prostitution, reduce violence against sex workers, and improve public health within the city of San Francisco, the upcoming November 4th election gives voters an opportunity to uphold the community’s long-standing legacy of fighting to secure equal rights for all minorities.

Behind Kink goes behind the scenes at a fundraiser in support of Proposition K at the Center for Sex and Culture, and talks to Dr. Carol Queen, one of San Francisco’s chief advocates for sex worker rights and the decriminalization of prostitution. Endorsed by such local politicians as Assembly Member Mark Leno and State Senator Carole Migden as well as by organizations as diverse as the San Francisco Democratic Party, the Harvey Milk Democratic Club and the San Francisco Tenant’s union, Proposition K has a real chance of passing, especially if voters who believe in equal human and civil rights for all members of society speak up and make their voices heard.
