Each year, the legendary
International Ms. Leather event celebrates leatherwomen and all the people who love them. What's a leatherwoman? Glad you asked — it's any woman who digs the lifestyle of leather, kink, fetish, BDSM or related interests, "...regardless of age, religion, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, relationship status or gender," according to the event's
website.
International Ms. Leather (or IMsL for short, pronounced "Imsel" by those in the know) brings women from all over the world for four days of workshops, networking, community organizing, shopping, performances, play spaces and, of course, bootblacking. The main event of the whole weekend is the competition for the title of International Ms. Leather, one of the venerable and most important titles in the leather community. This important figure is selected not just for their sex appeal but also for their skill, style and community organizing commitment. She serves as a profoundly important educator, spokesperson and leader to the leather community for the coming year. And this year, our very own Van Darkholme, director of
BoundGods.com, will be serving as one of the judges for the title, putting his lifelong leather community experience to work as he helps decide who will help lead the leatherwomen community into a new era of kink activism and celebration.
If you're a leatherwoman (or someone who loves them), get your leather-clad ass to San Francisco March 19-22 and, as they say at IMSL, "Strap 'em on and ride!" Visit the website at
IMsL.org for more information about the event schedule and registration.
